Iberia and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) have inaugurated “Aula Iberia”, a space that will serve as a meeting point to strengthen ties between the academic and professional spheres, offering students of the School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering (ETSIAE) a unique opportunity for practical learning and career guidance through the knowledge and experience of the best professionals of the Spanish airline.
The main objectives of this project are: To facilitate the transfer of knowledge between Iberia experts and students; To support academic and research projects in key areas such as composite materials, aerodynamics and maintenance structures; To bring students closer to the reality of the aeronautical industry and facilitate their future insertion in the labor market.
“Aula Iberia” will bridge the gap between the academic and working worlds, both in theory and in practice, with visits to the heart of daily operational management, such as Iberia’s Operational Control Center, or to the aircraft maintenance work at its facilities in La Muñoza, among others.

“With this project we not only seek to train students, but also to support their integration into the workforce. The high demand for qualified profiles in the aeronautical sector means that this agreement promotes synergies between two organizations that are a benchmark in the industry,” says María Bello, Iberia’s Director of People and Diversity.
“The Aula Iberia fits perfectly in the process of modernization of programs and infrastructures in which the ETSIAE is immersed, and in which the consolidation of our relationship with leading companies in the sector, as is the case of Iberia, plays a fundamental role,” commented Gustavo Alonso, director of the School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering.
Despega” Mentoring Program
As part of the agreement signed between Iberia and the UPM for the creation of the “Iberia Chair”, a Mentoring Program has been launched, aimed at students in the last year of their Bachelor’s Degree or any Master’s Degree course who wish to broaden their knowledge in fields related to engineering, management and/or operations of an airline company.
During its six-month duration, six selected students will work alongside Iberia’s expert mentors to broaden their knowledge of the aeronautical industry, explore career opportunities and define their professional profile and develop practical skills in a real-world environment.
