LATAM Airlines inaugurated its new seasonal route between Fortaleza (Brazil) and Lisbon (Portugal) this Monday. The inaugural flight achieved a 94% occupancy rate, a clear indicator of high demand for this transatlantic connection.
The opening ceremony, held at Fortaleza Airport, brought together key officials such as Eduardo Bismarck (Secretary of Tourism for Ceará), Denise Carrá (Secretary of Tourism for Fortaleza), and representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Embratur, LATAM Brasil, and Fraport Brasil.
Fortaleza-Lisbon route details
The new route, which will operate until October 20, offers weekly flights every Monday with an approximate duration of 7 hours and 30 minutes. The flight departs from Fortaleza at 6:15 AM (local time) and returns from Lisbon at 6:30 PM (local time). It is operated using a Boeing 787, featuring 30 Premium Business seats, 57 Economy+ seats, and 213 Economy seats.
In addition to passenger transport, the route includes the weekly export of over 20 tons of fruit from Ceará to Europe, leveraging LATAM Cargo’s expertise in perishable goods.

“We are always attentive to regional demands. This route was designed to connect people and businesses between Ceará and the world,” explained Eduardo Macedo, Head of Public Affairs at LATAM Brasil.
Fortaleza as an International Hub
With this launch, LATAM strengthens its position as the largest operator at Fortaleza Airport, with nearly 200 weekly operations. The airline also maintains key routes such as Guarulhos-Juazeiro do Norte and Guarulhos-Jericoacoara, each with 10 weekly flights.
On the international front, the company already operates the Fortaleza-Miami and Fortaleza-Santiago routes. The latter, launched in December, connects the capital of Ceará with Chile through a weekly Saturday flight.
The new Lisbon connection is part of an expansion plan that also includes the reactivation of domestic routes during peak season, such as Fortaleza-Belo Horizonte/Confins, starting June 30.
Partnership to Promote Ceará in Europe
LATAM and Embratur have launched a joint promotional campaign to position Fortaleza as a key tourist destination in the European market. Backed by the Government of Ceará and the Northeast Consortium, the campaign includes audiovisual materials and digital content targeting Portuguese audiences and other European countries.
Leonardo Carnielle, Vice President of Fraport Brasil, emphasized: “Fortaleza Airport offers top-tier infrastructure. This route provides another option for direct connectivity between Ceará and Europe.”
