The Dominican airline Arajet launched its first commercial flight to the United States, which departed from Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo and landed in Miami, marking a strategic step in the company’s expansion into the international market.
The flight, operated with a Boeing 737 MAX 8 named “Los Haitises,” carried 168 passengers. It was greeted in Miami with a traditional water arch ceremony and the presence of U.S. and Dominican authorities, reflecting the symbolism and expectations surrounding this new route.
More Than a Flight: A Milestone in Dominican Aviation
The launch of this route aligns with the Open Skies Agreement between the Dominican Republic and the U.S., which has facilitated greater bilateral connectivity. Arajet’s expansion strengthens the country’s positioning as an emerging aviation hub in the Caribbean.

Since its founding just 30 months ago, Arajet has transported over two million passengers. This entry into the competitive U.S. market not only solidifies its growth but also represents a significant boost for tourism, business, and cultural exchange between the two countries.
Frequencies and New Routes: The Expansion Plan
The airline will initially operate four weekly flights between Santo Domingo and Miami. Starting this summer, the frequency will increase to daily flights. Additionally, a new route between Punta Cana and Miami will open, also with seven weekly flights, expanding travel options for passengers to and from South Florida.
Arajet CEO Víctor Pacheco Méndez described this moment as “historic” and emphasized the airline’s commitment to offering efficient and affordable travel options. “This first flight to the capital of Latin America, Miami, is just the beginning of our commitment,” he stated.
A Future on the Rise
Arajet’s growth confirms that Dominican aviation is entering a new phase of global expansion and projection. With a modern fleet, clear connectivity strategies, and institutional support, the airline is positioning itself as a key player in the region.
This new connection between Santo Domingo and Miami is not just another route—it is a symbol of the Dominican Republic’s potential to become a regional air hub.
